RSS Works: Hard Metrics to Prove It

RSS Works: Hard Metrics to Prove It
Copyright 2005 Rok Hrastnik

Marketers are constantly asking if RSS marketing works and
if this can be proved.

It's time to take a look at some real-life RSS metrics from
real-life marketers. These will show you what kind of
results you can expect to see from RSS.

I first presented this data at the Syndicate Conference in
New York City, the first conference entirely devoted to RSS.

To make a point, we'll take a look at RSS metrics from 4
different viewpoints, each demonstrating one facet of RSS
marketing and a different way of capturing RSS metrics.
This data combined will give you the answer of whether RSS
marketing is for you, as an addition to e-mail marketing,
or not.

1. CLICK-THROUGH RATES FROM RSS FEED TO SITE: THE RSS
AGGREGATOR SIDE

RSS statistics should be most relevant when coming from
actual RSS aggregators and their vendors, since these
people can measure precisely how their users are actually
using RSS.

Customer Reader http://www.customreader.com, who just
recently launched a desktop RSS aggregator, which marketers
can brand for themselves and then distribute to their
readers, supplied us with their latest data. This data is
based on 3,500 users of their brandable RSS aggregator and
on the last [two weeks ago] 48 hours of their reader usage.

The most interesting piece of data is the 23% average CTR
(click-through rate) from feed to site within last 48
hours, which proves that RSS works in terms of getting
readers from the outbout message to the site. RSS users are
actually clicking on RSS content!

Now, what is the "feed-to-side" CTR? It simply means that
23% of the end-users that subscribe to various feeds,
clicked at least once on one of the content items in the
feeds they are subscribed to.

2. CLICK-THROUGH RATES FROM CONTENT ITEM TO SITE: THE RSS
SOLUTION VENDOR SIDE

Considering the different RSS metrics systems and the fact
that no marketing tool whatsoever can be measured 100%
precisely from the outside tracking service side, seeing
stats from RSS solutions vendors is important as well.

On this end, some basic stats were supplied from SimpleFeed
http://www.simplefeed.com, the providers of one of the
more advanced RSS marketing solutions.

The stats are based on an app. 10,000 end-user sample, 30
day average and 4 months of data.

They are seeing a 6.8% average CTR from content item
[individual content item in an RSS feed] to site and a 150%
[1.5 clicks] average CTR from feed to site within 30 days.

3. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND CLICK-THROUGH RATES: THE
MARKETER/PUBLISHER SIDE

And finally, let's take a look at the stats from the
publisher/marketer point of view.

Lockergnome.com is one of the most popular tech sites on
the internet.

Although they are serving a more tech savvy audience,
Lockergnome is an excellent example of the results you can
ultimately hope to achieve using RSS.

First of all, they are seeing a ration of 5:1 in favor of
the number of RSS subscribers against e-mail subscribers,
and even more interesting, a 500% better clickthrough ratio
with RSS than with e-mail.

4. SEARCH ENGINE VISIBILITY

The BTI Group is a smaller VoIP provider and, through their
high ranking blogsite http://blog.btigroup.com/, the
proof that RSS works for search engine positioning.

Here are just some of their achievements, as a result of
their RSS marketing activities:

a] 120 page-one search results on important industry search
terms
#1 Voip vs traditional phone system
#1 VoIP solution provider
#2 VoIP small business
#2 VoIP architecture
#5 VoIP phone equipment
#6 VoIP benefits
#7 VoIP Small Business costs

b] A 75% increase in traffic to the corporate website

c] BTI's link popularity jumped from 164 in June 2003 to
1312 in December 2004 to 1405 in February 2005

OVERVIEW

These metrics clearly show that RSS works for marketers and
publishers.

This data alone, also considering that RSS clearly gets
100% of your content delivered and actually provides you
with an abundance of new marketing opportunities, such as
podcasting, should be enough to make you do something about
RSS now.

Very Subtle Opt-In At Michael Greene's Forum

I was just surfing and posting at Micheal Greene's Internet marketing forum. I've been posting there for year but just noticed that when you make a post, there is a pre-checked checkbox that says you want to be notified when a response is added to that thread, AND that you want to be added to his ezine (TopPosts... which contains among other things a summary of the top posts from the forum).

I wondered how many people don't notice that and then wonder how they subscribed to Michael's ezine. It's not hidden, or anything, it's just subtle. Since so many people do things so hurriedly, I just wondered how many even notice :-)

Why Would People Pay For Premium Podcasts When There Are Free Podcasts?

One of the services I'm testing, is Premium Podcasting.

Premium podcasting is basically paid podcasting. You
use this service to find subscribers to your paid
podcast. Affiliates of the system earn commissions on
all of the subscriptions that they sell.

Just as people are willing to pay for paid television,
even where free network are available, people are also
willing to pay for certain podcasts, even when the
majority of podcasts are free. The key factors is that
the ones they're willing to pay for are those offering
really high quality information or content.

It's really no different that the fact that even though
there are tens of thousands of free ezine in certain
niches, people are still willing to pay for the ezines
that offer premium content. An example is that I happily
pay $100 per month for John Reese's Reese Report.

Anyway, if you have high quality audio content that
you'd like to push out to the market, this may be
worth checking out.

It's another way of getting content to your audience.

A Guaranteed Top Ten Ranking And Other Myths

Here's a nice artice that covers a few things I've been
telling clients for years...

Screwed: Is This an Inevitability in the SEO World?
By Courtney Heard (c) 2005

By about 2pm everyday, each of my team members has spoken to a
good handful of clients and potential clients who have been
speaking with other SEO firms. This an absolutely wonderful
thing to see, as in the past in our industry, not enough of our
consumers were questioning what they were purchasing. It is a
sign that accountability will come and the bad guys will be
weeded out.

While this is a good sign, it's the cause of my having to answer
the same questions over and over. The consumers in the SEO world
are being fed out and out lies by some of the people who call
themselves experts in the area of Search Engine Optimization.
They hear these lies and while comparing prices, contact us at
Abalone Designs. They then proceed to tell me everything that
all of these other companies promised them and I am utterly
astonished. Here are some of the most asinine claims I hear
through the grapevine.

"We Can Guarantee Your Rankings"

Don't be fooled! Ask the company what you will be ranking for,
immediately! 9 times out of 10, a company that guarantees you
rankings, is guaranteeing that you will rank for your own
company name, which means people on Google or MSN or Yahoo!
would have to know your company name before searching. How does
this produce new customers and visitors to your site? Chances
are, as soon as these search engines index your site, you will
rank within the top ten for your company name, if not first,
because it is unique. Why bother paying someone for something
that is already going to happen, anyway?

Guaranteeing rankings is highly unethical. It is impossible to
guarantee rankings unless you have access to Google's database
itself, and even then I'm not sure it's possible. Keep in mind,
we are working with a 3rd party, here. A highly guarded 3rd
party that doesn't, under any circumstances, reveal it's
secrets. No one outside of the companies that run these search
engines knows what it is exactly that makes search engines rank
sites high. Especially due to the fact that these search engines
and the rigorous ranking filters they use to spit out search
results change almost monthly. Even a former Google employee
doesn't know how to guarantee rankings! If someone is telling
you they'll guarantee top rankings, run fast! Those are some
shady, shady claims. Google themselves have said:

"No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google - Beware of SEO's
that claim to guarantee rankings, or that claim a "special
relationship" with Google, or that claim to have a "priority
submit" to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In
fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is by
using the page at http://www.google.com/addurl.html. You can do
this yourself at no cost whatsoever." -
http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/seo.html

An ethical SEO company will not guarantee rankings. They will
guarantee that their methods follow search engine guidelines,
and they will guarantee customer satisfaction, but at no point
in time will any SEO company with a conscience guarantee your
rankings.

"Your Site Needs to Be Continually Resubmitted to Get On and
Stay On the Search Engines"

When will I see the end of this one? How old is this method
now? 5 years? 10 years? We're talking about the days when
Webcrawler was the biggest search engine and all computers were
beige! This claim is so fully untrue, had Pinocchio uttered it,
his nose would have stretched from Rome to Poughkeepsie. And the
good folks at Google will once again back me up on this one:

"Submission is not necessary and does not guarantee inclusion
in our index. Given the large number of sites submitting URLs,
it's likely your pages will be found in an automatic crawl
before they make it into our index through the URL submission
form. We DO NOT add all submitted URLs to our index, and cannot
predict when or if they will appear." -
http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/1.html#A2

"Meta Tags Are Not Important Anymore"

Sure they aren't. If you don't want a decent ranking on MSN. The
new MSN search places a lot of value on the keywords and
description meta tags. Without these tags in your site's code,
your ranking on MSN will suffer. Just as importantly, if your
keywords and description meta tags don't use proper language,
your rankings will suffer. The description tag is also what MSN
uses as the visible description for a site in the search
results. And of course, to prove I'm not the one blowing hot
air, here is what MSN themselves say about it:

"Site descriptions are extracted from the content of your page
each time MSNBot crawls your site and indexes its pages...

...the best way to affect your site description is to ensure
that your web pages effectively deliver the information you want
to see in search results." - Click here to see the page this is
found on. ((http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner.aspx?t=
SEARCH_WEBMASTER_CONC_AboutYourSiteDescription.htm)

"Your Web Site Has Been Sabotaged"

This one is truly unreal. I can't believe it's even been used
as an excuse for why an SEO company hasn't achieved decent
rankings for you. But alas, more than one SEO company has told
potential clients of ours that the reason they are not ranking
well, or why their search engine optimization campaign is not
effective, is because someone else has been sabotaging the site.
Some of the clients who have been told this are small
businesses, like bed and breakfasts or pet sitters. We always
explain to these potential clients that the likelihood of
someone even having the initial idea to sabotage a web site, the
site in question would have to be a fairly large one, and the
target of a lot of hatred. Why? Because sabotaging a web site's
rankings takes a massive amount of time and energy. We're
talking months, maybe even years of hard, hard work. Why would
anyone devote months or years of their life to taking down a pet
sitting site? Or a bed and breakfast?

Once again, these are some hefty claims and it is a clear sign
that the company who is running your SEO campaign is unwilling
to be held accountable for their actions or lack thereof.

Don't Put Up With It.

The bottom line is, your search engine optimization company
works for you. You are paying them. Hold them accountable as you
would any other vendor. Keep reading these articles, read info
at the search engines, educate yourself and if something your
SEO says smells a little rotten, don't be afraid to call them on
it.

Is being screwed an inevitability in the SEO world? Damn near.
But thanks to the increasing interest of our consumers in
self-education and their increased questioning, our industry
will slowly climb out of the gutter and someday down the line,
send this article into antiquity. In spite of my pride, I'd be
overjoyed to see that day come.

How To Write Your Own Cookbook

A cookbook is a simple, easy to do project. Most cookbooks are
also "evergreen" meaning they sell forever with no additional
work required.

Here is a review done of a teleseminar I conducted on the topic.

Product Review: How To Write A Cookbook Tele-seminar...

This is not a cookbook, but the recordings of a tele-class
on how to write your own cookbook. Published cookbook
authors Willie Crawford, Chef Stephen Block, and Jack
Humphrey, taught this recorded class.

Willie wrote a cookbook called Soul Food Recipes Learned
On A North Carolina Tobacco Farm
that is a best seller.

Stephen wrote a cookbook called Recipes From A German
Grandma. This cookbook shares recipes, stories and
pictures from a German family... pictures from in the
U.S. and Germany.
http://chitterlings.com/german.html

Jack wrote The Healthy Pooch Cookbook. As the title
suggests these are recipes for preparing healthier
treats and meals for your dog.

In the 1 hour 45 minute tele-class, the three cookbook
authors share how to layout a cookbook, gathering your
recipes, when and how to get photographs, copyright laws,
and where to get your cookbooks printed. They also
discuss things like producing an electronic cookbook,
using print-on-demand printers, and getting an IsBN
number so that all bookstores can carry your cookbook.

In addition to the basic tele-class recordings in MP3
audio, and PDF formats, you get a number of incredible
bonuses with this tele-class. In fact you get 30 pre-
composed cookbooks that you are free to sell just as
they are and keep all of the money. Many of these
pre-composed cookbooks come with Master Reprint Rights
that allow you to modify the basic manuscript and
use it as your own. That is, you can give some of these
cookbooks a title of your own and sell them from an
html website provided for you.

With over $700 in free bonuses thrown in just to make
producing and selling your own cookbook incredibly easy,
grabbing a copy of this incredible package is really
a no-brainer.

MegaSeminar Anti-Guru Jet Fighter

Ken Calhoun, whom I've learned a lot from over the years, is hosting a seminar in Denver in July. One of the neat promotional tools that he created to promote the seminar is a jet fighter game where you shoot down the guru's.

The genesis of Ken's seminar was that he thought most Internet marketing seminars are overpriced, and that you are pitched to too much. So Ken deliberately priced his seminar at a fraction of what others cost, and he made it a no-pitch zone. He won't have any back of the room sales... the theory being that speakers will focus on just delivering solid, usable content. As one of the speakers, I know that's what is expected of all of us... and what we plan on delivering.

Check out Ken's Game at:
http://www.MegaSeminar.com/WillieCrawfordsJetFighter.htm

Feel free to pass around that url and maybe make the game go viral.

If you are not familiar with Ken, he was making about $80,000 per year online when he stumbled across Corey Rudl. The following year, using stuff he picked up from Corey, Ken was up to $300,000 per year. I won't even guess what he's making now.

Ken and I seem to keep crossing paths. Ken use to live in Hawaii, and I spent 4 years there myself. We both get a lot of free publicity by being featured in Corey Rudls' Insider Secrets course and in his Secrets of Their Success site. Both of these have sent me a LOT of customers.

Anyway... check out the game. I would challenge you to beat my score, but that wouldn't be that hard to do.

Getting White Listed By The Major ISPs

This past weekend I read through the 2005 version of Corey Rudl's "Insider Secret" course. Yes, the whole course... about 1000 pages.

One of the things I picked up on in this reading was tips on how to get your domains whitelisted by the major ISPs. Corey actually tells you how to do this for a domain.

I had not seen that discussed many other places and so I wondered how many ordinary webmasters even knew that this could be done.

Have you gone through the trouble of getting any of your domains whitelisted?

Back to Corey's coures. Many people would be surprised at how much I read the work of top Internet marketers despite the fact that I've been at it myself for 9 years now. I actually spend a lot of time spying on people like Corey. I spy on Corey, Marlon Sanders, Jonathan Mizel, etc. because I now that they spend a lot of time testing. So by just visiting their sites, I can see what they are testing and if they stick with a certain element on their site for a long time, then I know that elmenet has proven itself to them.

I use a piece of software called SEO Elite to spy on many of my competitors. It helps me to both analyze their webpages AND to see who all of their link partners (and Top Affiliates) are. It's a pretty powerful piece of software... one that I couldn't do without now. I use it every day :-)

I guess that's enough rambling for now.

7 Questions to Ask A Potential Internet Merchant Account Provider

Here's an excellent article on how to protect yourself when getting an Internet Merchant Account.

The only thing I would add is know your merchant account provider if possible. I got my merchant account through someone who's been providing them FOREVER to offline merchants, but who also operates and understands an online business. I got mine through WarriorProcessing.com

Here's the article...

7 Questions to Ask A Potential Internet Merchant Account Provider

Bobette Kyle

Recently, I went looking for an Internet Merchant Account. My mission was two-fold:

1. Open an account for myself and

2. Research options for my new ecommerce information site Take-Payments-Online.com.

After some research, I thought I'd found an attractive Merchant Account offered through a reputable reseller. As it turns out, I learned the hard way that I was wrong.

Fortunately, my experience can help you avoid the same trap. Based on my own experience, I developed a list of questions to ask a potential merchant account provider. Understanding the answers to these questions before signing an application or agreement will help make for a solid partnership between you and your account provider.

But first, the story:

My Internet Merchant Account Experience

I found what looked to be a competitive Merchant Account offered through a program at a popular reseller. Fees were summarized on the reseller's site and applying was simple. I paid an $89 set-up fee, which took me to an online application I was required to submit to get the process going.

That's when things got interesting. Submitting an application meant agreeing to a previously undisclosed 45 page merchant agreement. An unmentioned termination fee was buried on page 11.

If I ever cancelled the account, I'd be hit with a $295 termination fee. I knew from my research that the large termination fee was not competitive with other merchant accounts and other aspects of the account were not attractive enough to compensate.

Suddenly, this merchant account was not such a good deal.

More critically, however, the termination fee was not disclosed before I was required to pay for set-up. I immediately asked for a refund.

Non-Refundable

Then things got even more interesting. I was told the $89 fee was non-refundable. I'd seen a footnote that the fee was non-refundable, but interpreted it to mean only if they actually did some work and processed an application. I had not completed an application and did not intend to after learning of the extra $295.

Using the email support system so I would have documented proof if I needed it, I insisted on a refund. Still no go.

When I explained there had been no set-up to justify a 'set-up' fee, they responded that the fee was really an 'application' fee - non-refundable, as explained in the footnote on the order page.

Basically, they were telling me I'd paid $89 for a link to an online application, which I had not and did not intend to submit.

Finally, A Refund

I explained I would not take no for an answer. If we couldn't work this out I'd report them to the Better Business Bureau for undisclosed fees, file a complaint with my credit card company, and copy the company president on each. My complaint was sent to the next level.

Finally, after an additional three day wait, the refund was approved.

Avoid An Internet Merchant Account Trap

I made the mistake of taking information at face value and relying on the reseller's good reputation in other areas.

To avoid unpleasant surprises such as mine, insist on all information and agreements up front, before committing to the account or paying initial fees.

Having all of the documentation may not be enough. Be sure you understand all aspects of your Internet Merchant Account agreement as well as fees and equipment required.

If you find incomplete, unclear, or conflicting information, ask questions.

If your sales representative is more interested in getting your signature than helping you understand your commitments, ask for another representative or go elsewhere. There are many, many Internet merchant account options available. You need not be trapped into one that is uncomfortable for you.

Based on my own experience, I developed a list of seven multi-part questions to ask a potential merchant account provider. Before contacting a provider about fees and agreement details, you may also want to familiarize yourself with all of the potential fees associated with an Internet Merchant Account. There is a list here, about half way down the page: http://www.take-payments-online.com/InternetMerchantAccount.html

7 Questions to Ask

Understanding the answers to these questions before signing an application or agreement will help make for a solid partnership between you and your account provider:

1. Can I accept credit cards both online and offline?

Do I need to get separate authorizations or permissions when setting up my account for different types of transaction (Internet, retail, phone orders, etc.)?

What other additional fees are involved if I accept both online and offline credit card charges?

2. Can I accept online payments using methods other than Mastercard and Visa (Discover, American Express, Diner's Club, online checks, debit cards, etc.)?

If so, what are the fees and do I need to do anything to "activate" those payment methods?

3. What are the different discount rates and fees for different types of charges (Internet, in person, telephone, mail, etc.)?

4. What are the other fees related to this account - yearly, set-up, application, monthly minimum, statement, support, cancellation, discount, per-transaction, gateway access fees, card reject fee?

Are these subject to change?

Are there any other fees?

5. Do I process charges manually or automatically?

If manually, is it possible to get automatic processing?

If so, do you provide a secure online payment gateway?

How do I do it and what extra charges will I pay?

6. What other software and services do I need to become fully ecommerce enabled online (such as secure gateway provider, etc.)?

Do you have a list of compatible or preferred providers?

7. Do I need additional hardware or software?

If so, what is the cost and how do I get it?

Ask these questions and establishing a mutually comfortable relationship with your Internet Merchant Account provider from the start. It will help you avoid "traps" and lay the groundwork for a long, solid partnership.

Blogging and Pinging- Powerful Backdoor Into Major Search Engines For Free

Interesting article...

Blogging and Pinging- Powerful Backdoor Into Major Search
Engines For Free
By Ted Kushner

Most of you know what a blog is. But have you ever had to ping
a web site? Did you know that the two together, blog and ping
have become the talk of the seo forums lately on how powerful
these two techniques together can be at getting any web site
no matter how small or large, indexed almost immediately by
the major search engines and for free.

If you`re a webmaster then you know how frustrating it can be
to be able to get your site listed and indexed in the major
search engines in a reasonable amount of time. You spend
countless hours creating your site, adding content, checking
keyword density, etc... You then take the time to hand submit
your site to all the major search engines like Yahoo, Google,
AOL, MSN and then wait... and wait for the spiders to come
index your web pages.

If you`re lucky they may come by this week, this month, or even
this year. After spending all your time and money in the
development of your site the last thing you want to do is wait
forever for it to show you the fruits of your labor. You want
to get it listed as fast as possible. Now there are some ways
you can get the spiders to visit your site sooner. Like
posting to similar high ranking forums, buying high PR rated
links, or submitting articles on your subject and linking back
to your site.

All of these techniques work and work well, along with some
other methods not mentioned here. But they all still take time.
Some may work faster then others, but how would you like it
if you could learn how get your site spidered and indexed by
all of the major search engines in only 48 hours without
spending a dime?

By blogging and pinging you can do just that. You need to
follow some simple steps in setting up this strategy. But once
set up it can become a major tool to getting any of your sites
listed quickly.

Setting these steps up isn`t hard you just need to do them in a
proper sequence or all your work will be in vain. But with the
proper research you could very well be on your way to getting
your site indexed and listed in as little as a few days.

information on a wide variety of subjects including health,
finance, and web promotion. You can find additional

Email Authentication And All That Jazz ...

For visitors unfamiliar... email authentication is a method of getting around the problems spam is causing. The basic concept is that your server will confirm where the email is really from before the receiving server accepts it. There are a several companies working of different ways of implementing this... and some of them do make sending email EXPENSIVE!

John is the person I rely on when I want updates on this topic. Here' a recent article he wrote.

Email Authentication And All That Jazz ...

by John Glube, © 2005, all rights reserved of Biz Rules News

Into email marketing? Want to improve your delivery rates? Well then pull up a chair and stay awhile. There have been some important developments in the email authentication field since the big summit held in Washington, D.C. last November.

Spring started off with a bang. In mid-April, Suresh Ramasubramanian, the administrator of anti-spam operations at Outblaze.com (with around 40 million users) posted an article on circleid.com titled "Port 25 Blocking, or Fix SMTP and Leave Port 25 Alone for the Sake of Spam?"
http://www.circleid.com/article/1039_0_1_0_C/

The big news? Outblaze.com has removed its SPF records in protest against the failure of the technologists working on the SPF specification (both version 1 and version 2 - which supports MSN/Hotmail's solution) to come up with solutions for the major "edge cases" involving SPF versions 1/2 that could lead to wide spread disruption of email.

The significance of this development? One of the early supporters of the Sender Policy Framework with significant clout has broken ranks and clearly stated what has been mumbled in corridors and meetings for some time:

"She don't work as designed ... so, let's fix it. But, until you fix it, I ain't using it anymore."

What does this mean for senders?

Publish an SPF compliant version 1/2 record, but:

* Understand the SPF protocol is experimental.

If you have not yet published an SPF compliant version 1/2 record - covering the mail from and pra scopes - visit this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safety/technologies/senderid/resources.mspx

To ensure that your new record is compliant with the proposed protocol for SPF version 1, which is not fully compatible with SPF version 1/2 - as it covers the helo and mail from scopes - you will also need to visit here:
http://spf.pobox.com/wizard.html

Don't worry. If you don't understand the 'technical lingo,' the web site for the SPF version 1/2 record will help. Even if you published an SPF record sometime last year, the SPF protocol for version 1 has changed and the SPF protocol version 1/2 was updated since the fall. So, you will want to review your record to ensure compliance.

* You will want to work through any marketing associations you are involved in to influence the large consumers networks to do SPF checking with great care to avoid mishap. Essentially, you will want folks to limit SPF checks to verifying the sender's outbound mail server (s) to allow use in confirming whether the sender's mail stream should be white or black listed based on the network's internal or external white or black lists.

* For now, you are best off publishing an open record, meaning ending it with ~all, unless you are absolutely certain you can end your record in - all, taking into consideration all the "edge" cases.

As to the immediate future? Look to:

* Publishing a light weight cryptographic record for message authentication in the near term (probably by the end of the 3rd quarter), which will be more universally accepted, likely called DKIM (standing for DomainKeys Identified Mail) being the merger of the present Yahoo! and CISCO specifications.

Ultimately, DKIM will replace SPF versions 1/2 for message authentication.

Legitimate senders may need to continue to publish SPF version 1 records given the continued usage of SPF in the "wild" by smaller networks.

* The various large consumer networks introducing "user indicators" stipulating message authentication sometime in the 3rd or 4th quarter based on this specification.

Yahoo! will be providing this service in this quarter based on its DomainKeys protocol. So, if you want to improve your readership by users of the large consumer networks, this is an especially important development to follow.

What does it mean? Consider publishing a DomainKeys record now and then changing it to DKIM come the fall. For more on DomainKeys:
http://antispam.yahoo.com/domainkey

MSN/Hotmail was planning to do something similar using "PRA checking," but has delayed its plans for the moment.

Why? Not sure, but I believe it may be the MSN/Hotmail design team appreciates that SPF version 1/2 is simply not stable enough for this purpose as of yet.

For more on the issues surrounding SPF, read "Considerations for the use of the Sender Policy Framework" edited by Andrew Newton for the Message Anti-Abuse Working Group, based on actual field testing.

For a copy, go here:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-newton-maawg-spf-considerations-00.txt

Who is the Message Anti-Abuse Working Group? A consortium of Internet Service Providers with members from around the world. For the details, go here:
http://www.maawg.org

There may also be recognition by MSN/Hotmail that it may make more sense to wait for DKIM, as this has far less chance of producing "false positive" results, although don't hold your breath.

* Publishing a certified server verification (CSV) record as part of an overall plan for network security sometime before the year's end.

For more on CSV:
http://www.mipassoc.org/csv/index.html

* Working with an accreditation service. The Message Anti-Abuse Working Group will be having its annual meeting in June.

Anticipate movement on best current practices for ISPs, which will incorporate much of the recommendations of the Anti-Spam Technology Alliance Group, published last June including the recommendation that bulk mailers register with an accreditation service.

For a service designed for the SOHO market place:
http://www.trusted-email-sender.com

* Using a delivery monitoring service. This is a useful tool for the online marketer, especially if you are doing your own bulk mailings, your list size is reasonably substantial and you are into using co-registration services.

For details on one stand alone service I can suggest:
http://www.learnsteps4profit.com/monitor.html

Even if you are using a 3rd party provider, unless the provider is certified by either Habeas or Bonded Sender and gives you access to the necessary suite of services, depending on your list size, you will want to consider using such a service.

Want to outsource your mailings? Need everything in a package, all for a reasonable price? Here is one service I use, which is worth considering:
http://www.learnsteps4profit.com/bighip.html

Well, that's it for today. Back to the trenches.

Earning Extra Income With Affiliate Marketing - Having Your Cake Adn Eating It Too!

Earning Extra Income With Affiliate Marketing - Having Your Cake and Eating it Too!By Bill Schnarr

Affiliate marketing is the single fastest growth industry on the Internet. Yet many people go into it without a solid recipe for success. Indeed, many look to earn extra income with affiliate marketing with no real plan, and that can severely hamper their efforts at becoming successful at it.

Make no mistake, although affiliate marketing can be an easy and fun way to earn additional income, it is work, and just like any other job, requires effort, perseverance, and above all, a clear line of sight from start to finish line.

Things like setting up your home office properly, getting some know-how, setting realistic goals, making connections, and investing in your business will not only ensure that you have a leg-up on your competition, but it will also ensure you are firmly standing head and shoulders above them.

Setting Up Your Home Base

Perhaps the most important first step you can take to becoming a professional affiliate marketer is to set up your home base - that little home office you've always dreamed about!

There are many good articles on the internet about ergonomic design, and with good reason. Anyone who is going to be spending a large amount of time on their computers needs a space that promotes good posture, positive environments, and takes care of safety issues revolving around the office workspace.

The best place to start might be to head down to your local Home Depot and touch base with a professional sales representative. They are trained to show you how to set up a first-rate ergonomic office while saving you some serious cash.

Ergonomics is the science behind preventing office workplace injuries, and office designers now make tables, chairs, and desktop accessories that reduce stress on your back, limbs, wrists, and tendons, and reduce stress injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome which can occur from long hours of doing small repetitive tasks.
You'll want to start with an ergonomically designed desk that puts everything within easy reach, a good computer with a screen that won't hurt your eyes, non-glaring lamps placed far enough away that your eyes won't be soaking in light while you are trying to work on the computer screen, and a chair that is comfortable and promotes circulation to your legs and rest of your body.

Of course, having the greatest home office in the world won't matter if you don't take the next step to becoming a successful affiliate marketer: getting some good, professional training.

Learning the Trade

Nobody goes onto a worksite cold. You can't walk into a restaurant and expect to become the head chef just because you dressed like one that morning. And no construction company in the world is going to put you in charge just because you want the extra money but lack any real training.

The trick, then, is getting some professional training and learning how to become a professional affiliate marketer.

The first step in this road to success is to find a professional affiliate marketer and see what they can do to help you get on your feet and get moving. Thankfully, there are a few affiliate marketing pros out there who supplement their income by fulfilling another dream for many of them: being able to teach their trade to other enthusiastic marketers and passing their collective knowledge on to others.

In fact, simply typing "Affiliate Marketing Training" (in quotation marks) into www.yahoo.com, www.google.com or some other search engine will find dozens and dozens of sites promoting quality affiliate marketing conferences that you can attend.

One of affiliate marketing's brightest stars and biggest success stories is James Martell, and chances are pretty good that if you've looked into affiliate marketing at all you've seen his name pop up more than once. His downloadable home-study course and twice monthly audio newsletter for students of his program make him the good place to start looking for a great course and learning the inner workings of affiliate marketing.

Become a student of the business. Start by setting some realistic income goals and working to achieve them.

Setting Reachable Goals

One problem with some affiliate marketers is that many tend to overshoot both their skills and their plans by setting unrealistic income goals and becoming disenchanted when they are unable to attain them.

Certainly a goal of $5,000 a month is attainable, but the first time affiliate marketer is most likely not going to make that kind of money when they step into the ring for the first time.

Make no mistake; $5,000 dollars a month is a goal that can be achieved through affiliate marketing, but beginners should look for something more modest. Start small. Start with, "I'm going to earn an extra $50-$100 a day, by learning how to create my own great looking websites, that get free traffic from the search engines, by taking the time to learn how to do it, from someone who already does the same thing."

As an income goal, it's certainly achievable, and you would be doing yourself a favour by setting aside the extra time you will need to learn how to do things right, the first time. Like any skill, it takes time and experience before you really get good at what you are doing.

Set goals and get used to setting them often. Set up daily goals for little things. Set up weekly and monthly goals to work toward even larger goals. Get used to writing your wants and needs on paper, and then actively working toward those goals. You'll be glad you did, and you'll be amazed at how much something as simple as a "to do" list can help you focus your energy and become better at your craft.

There's a great book out about goal setting called "Goals: Setting and Achieving Them on Schedule" by Zig Ziglar. Take a look at it if you feel you could use some extra help in this department. In fact, set a goal to purchase the book and read it if you have to!

Another important goal for you to set: if you are really looking to augment your earnings with affiliate programs, or plan on becoming a full-time marketer, you have to get out there and make connections.

Making Connections to Your Future

By all accounts, the professional affiliate marketing community is a tight-knit group of people who are constantly in contact with one another.

There is a large amount of information sharing, helping one another as a support group, and a general belief that by pitching in and helping out everyone can be successful in their new role as an affiliate marketer and learn from each others mistakes.

It would be extremely shallow to suggest getting out there and making friends simply to help your business along, and people tend to not look kindly upon those who do (and we all know someone like that, don't we?). Instead, get out there and introduce yourself. Start by seeing where you can help others with their business, and in return people will be more inclined to help you when you need it.

Get out there and enjoy yourself, and get to know these people personally. You won't only be better off from a business standpoint, but your life will be far richer for making good friends who can relate to the trials and tribulations of your business woes and successes.

Just being able to relate to like-minded people will relieve tons of work stress. You will always be able to discuss your new career and problems you are facing with people who understand what you’re talking bout and don't simply see your job as "foolin' around on the 'puter."

Of course, they'll have no choice but to take you a little more seriously when you invest a little money and a lot of effort in your own affiliate marketing business and really make your image shine.

Investing in Your Business is Believing in Yourself!

It's a well known truism that states, "It takes money to make money." These words couldn't be truer in the world of affiliate marketing.
Although affiliate marketing is relatively cheap to set up as a home business, there are still some costs involved in getting up and running smoothly. Things like home office accessories (remember that trip to Home Depot?) Can set you back large sums of money depending on how far you are willing to go at once.

There are also costs involved within the industry itself. For example, finding affordable web space ($8-$15 per month) and registering your own domain names ($10-15 per year) does add up.

You will also need to look at web site template options if you hope to save time by having your websites "pre-planned." Low-cost website templates, such as those found at www.affiliate-marketing-templates.com can greatly affect the way others view your site. Is it professional? Is it clean? A good web development company selling low cost FrontPage website templates will be able to accomplish all of this and more.

You are also going to want to invest both time and effort into setting yourself up with quality content. Writing for the web is a skill that takes practice and patience, like any other, and must be clean and easy to read while still fulfilling the needs of your affiliate site.

You can always go out and find professional writers to do this for you, but remember that they can be costly and deserve to be well-paid for their services. After all, they are going to make or break your web site!

Investing in your affiliate marketing business is more than just covering costs, though. It is really about you stepping up to the plate and making a commitment to become a success. It is an investment in your own success, as well as an investment in your future.

Hopefully, this article has given you some ideas about the direction you need to take in order to earn extra income as a successful affiliate marketer. Remember that it takes time to become succeed at anything. Rome wasn't built in a day. You're affiliate marketing business isn't going to be built in a day either.

Just keep at it, and before long you'll have people coming to you for advice on how to get started.

Making Money Online Can Be Easy!

Making Money Online Can Be Easy!
Copyright © 2005 by Willie Crawford

The real secret to making money on the Internet is simply
figuring out what your audience wants and offering it to them.
It's no more complex than that.

You don't need a particularly glamorous product. You don't
need a particularly expensive product. You just need to find
out what people are looking for... what they are willing to
spend money on, and then you offer it to them.

You can also do this in a surprisingly crowded market and do
very well just by "mixing it up" a little. Let me give you an
example...

My most recent issue of Word Tracker showed that "recipes" was
the 76th most search for term on the entire Internet. If you
throw out all of the adult-related terms, it's probably in the
top 20. When I first noticed how popular that term was back in
1996, I simply positioned myself in front of that audience.
Now, if you search on the term "soul food" on any of the major
search engines, I'm in the top 10... and usually in the top
three search results. My site is at http://chitterlings.com/

This is a perfect example of positioning yourself in a very
crowded market. The fact that the market is so crowded PROVES
that the demand is there. Offline proof… is the fact that
you'll find dozens of cookbooks positioned near the checkout
counter at any major American supermarket. People NEVER get
tired of searching for new ways to fry chicken :-)

Having made my point above, I will share with you my real
secret. It's positioning. You can do very well in a crowded
market if you just figure out how to make your product seem
unique. In the brick-and-mortar world, there are probably
hundreds of different brands of jeans. Yet, if I were to ask
you to name a brand of jeans, there's a very high probability
you'd say ®Levi's. It's all about branding and positioning!

There are thousands of niche markets very similar to the
cookbook market. I'm VERY well positioned in a number of them.
I won't mention most of the others simply because it wouldn't
be prudent. I've branded myself as the soul food cookbook
guy, so I don't worry too much about eroding that market. To
discover others, you only have to do a little research using
a tool like WordTracker. You can get a free trial subscription
at: http://williecrawford.com/FreeWordTrackerTrial.html

Another tool you can use to find out everything about a given
niche is at: http://williecrawford.com/SecretSEOWeapon.html
With this tool researching all of your competitors, and
potential joint venture partners, is a breeze!

Let's stick with the cookbook example, but I do encourage you
to find your own niche :-) Just how difficult is it to write
a cookbook? You simply pull together a themed collection of
your favorite recipes, type them up in ®MS Word, take or
purchases a few photos, and you're just about done. MS Word
integrates with some of the common PDF creation software, so
you can actually output you Word file to PDF and have a
cookbook ready to market in no time.

It's even easier that that. At my site, http://writeacookbook.com/
I offer the recordings from a teleseminar I did on how I, and two
other cookbook authors, wrote our own cookbooks. We share our
experiences with you. On top of that I GIVE you 30 pre-written
cookbooks. Many of these come with html websites that you can
just insert your order links into. You get the raw MS Word version
of many of the manuscripts that you are free to change. What
could be easier.

Now, here's where we "mix it up" a little. You see, I purchased
the master resale rights to those 30 cookbooks. Then I packaged
them with my recorded teleseminar to create a killer product.
That's how EASY it is to come up with a killer product that will
make you money hand over fist. It really doesn't have to be
complicated.

There is one other piece of the puzzle that's a challenge for
some. It's the copy on your website that converts traffic to
buyers. Writing good copy is a challenge for some, but it just
takes practice. To shorten the learning curve, just grab a copy
of Yanik Silver's very comprehensive course at:
http://www.ultimateonlinecopymanual.com/

If you've already written your copy and want it critiqued, you
can get a professional copywriter to do that for FREE. I have
a friend who's written copy for the likes of Jay Abraham and
Agora Publishing. His name is Kelvin Parker and you can
request a free critique, and a copy of his free report "714 Ways
Pro Copywriters Boost Response and Make Millions of Dollars" at:
http://williecrawford.com/copywriting.html

Ok, I've just revealed to you how easy making money online can
be. The key is to find a market with proven demand, and then carve
off your piece of that market. In order for your product to do
really well you do need to figure out a way to make your product
be perceived as unique. Otherwise, your product will just be a
commodity and not command a very high price. The key to making your
product stand out is just branding and good copywriting.

Now "the ball's in your court."

I'm always looking for ways to make my 4 computers more
efficient... quicker and more stable (less hangups).

On the laptop I work on most often (while sitting in my backyard
using a wireless connection) I often have 8-10 programs running
at the same time, in different windows.

The problem is Windows XP just has some quirks that get in the
way of being able to do this and leave enough memory to keep
your computer running quick and stable.

I've been testing and using a little software package that does
some amazing things to tune up your Windows XP computer.

It frees up memory using a technique like I've never seen before,
plus dozens of other adjustments that make your computer run
faster and better, and more stable.

You can get a free PDF report on what it does... and how, at:
http://WillieCrawford.com/SpeedUpXP.pdf

You can also read about it and watch a short video on how it
works at:

10 Ways to Easily Sell Expensive Products as an Affiliate

I really liked this article and thought I'd share it with you....

10 Ways to Easily Sell Expensive Products as an Affiliate

by Anik Singal

One of the quickest ways to boost your affiliate
income is to offer high ticket products.

Commissions as low as 5% can still pay off
handsomely, provided the item carries a big
enough price tag. Plus some pay-per-lead programs
offer hefty bounties of $50 and up for qualified
leads.

So why don't more affiliates build sites around
high-ticket products? Because the higher the
price, the more likely your visitors will
experience ?"sticker shock." It's only natural.

People's internal resistance kicks in because
they're always a little uneasy when it's time to
shell out big bucks online. This is true no
matter how badly they want what you're selling.
But if there's one thing super-affiliates know
how to do, it's overcome buyer resistance. So
here are 10 never-fail techniques I've been
teaching my clients and students. Apply each one
to your affiliate business, and you'll soon see
skyrocketing conversion rates on higher-priced
products and lucrative upsells.

#1 - Turn your pocket calculator into a salesman.

Numbers can almost always support of your selling
proposition, so put those numbers to work! Ask
yourself how many ways can you MONETIZE the
benefit of your product or service. Then put
those numbers on the table.

For example, if you're selling a $1499 teleclass
that teaches people options trading, calculate
the LOWEST possible profit they will make from
your system in one year's time. Say that even if
they got the most mediocre results, they'd still
make an average of $300 per day.

That means in a 5 day work week they'd make an
average of $1500. In a 4-week month they'd make
$6000. In a 50-week year they'd make $75,000. Now
ask them to compare that to their current salary
or hourly wage. Don't hype it up, just let the
numbers speak for themselves.

#2 - Break the cost into easily digested chunks.

Ask yourself, what sounds better: $29.95 a
month? or $359 a year?? Even if the prospect has
to pay the entire sum up front, show them how
that big price tag isn't so big after all.

A variation of this is comparing the price of
your item with some commonplace or routine
expense: "For less than the price of your monthly
double-lattes, you could be learning the secrets
of billion-dollar investment managers..."

#3 - Word the price to make it seem tiny!

A $197 annual subscription sounds like a lot of
money. But gaining access to business-critical
information for just 54 cents a day sounds like,
well... peanuts!

#4 - State the value of each component, then

add 'em up for dramatic effect.

This works best for information products, but if
you're creative, you can use it with almost
anything, especially consulting services.

If your investment course sells for $599, make a
list of everything your buyers get: digital
reports, videos, workbook, telephone hotline,
private site access, software, etc. Put a price
tag on each - make it realistic, please - then
show how they add up to much more than $599.

Or let's say you're offering to install,
configure, and customize an off-the-shelf
software package for a total price of $699.
Simply show how many hours you spend on each
element, multiply by a realistic but high-end
hourly rate... and show how buyers are getting
$2500 worth of services for only $699!

#5 - Bundle in bonuses or add-ons that your
prospects can't easily price.

This takes some extra work, but I really love it
because so few affiliates are doing it.

Let's say you're an affiliate for high-ticket
digital SLR cameras. Tell your buyers that when
they purchase any camera over $599 from you, and
they send you a copy of their receipt, they'll
get a bonus CD-ROM packed with digital
photography tips, imaging freeware and shareware,
and your handpicked online resources for
supplies, accessories, and photo printing.

Sure, you'll need to contact freeware and
shareware authors to get their permission to
include their software on your disk. (Guess what?
Almost none will refuse - you're promoting them
via direct mail for free!) And yes, you'll have
to write up some tips and find photo resources.

But you can pack this CD with affiliate links.
And you'll be saving your prospects a boat load
of time. Your buyers can't compare it to anybody
else's bonus CD, since nobody's offering one
quite like yours. You can put any realistic value
on it, promote it heavily, and get endless viral
marketing value out of it.

And best of all, it's a way to get buyers to
VOLUNTARILY give you both their email and snail
mail addresses! Nice.

#6 - Show a huge return compared to the

purchase price.

Spell out, in dollars and cents, how the cost of
your product or service is a drop in the bucket
compared to the returns it generates.

Let's say your $799 workplace safety review
course helps businesses pass inspections. Then
calculate the exact cost of failing an
inspection. List fines, penalties, cost of
business shutdowns, etc. These will literally add
up to five figures, a huge expense compared to
the price of your course.

#7 - Make your prospects relieved that you're
charging so little!

This one's so easy, I'm amazed more affiliates
don't do it. Show higher prices for other
products... then tell them your price, which of
course is much, much less!

Are you selling an investment course? First talk
about $1 million private investment accounts...
and the huge commissions investment managers
charge. By the time you tell them about your $599
course, your prospect will breathe a sigh of
relief!

Sure, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.
That's the whole point. You're showing your
prospect why your $599 course is the least
expensive choice for them... and maybe the only
affordable one.

#8 - Preempt price objections.

Most sales pages for expensive products and
services play on emotions and benefits. They
build desire and perceived value over several
thousand words and literally "sell" the person
BEFORE price is even mentioned.

But sometimes you can do the opposite and reap
big rewards by pre-qualifying visitors. That's
right, tell people the price up front. Then play
on the drama and exclusivity of a big number to
weed out the tire kickers!

Here's an example:

"This course is for serious investors only. It costs

$1299. If you're scared by that price, or if you're

unwilling to invest in your ability to create wealth,

then our course is not for you."

Sure, this approach is based on snob appeal. But
it's also very powerful reverse psychology: the
more you tell a prospect they don't qualify, the
more some people will insist that they DO!

If you don't believe this approach works, some of
the greatest direct response copy of all time has
taken it all the way to the bank. One
fund-raising letter that generated millions for a
bird-watching expedition stated: ?It will cost
you $10,000 and about 26 days of your time.
Frankly, you will endure some discomfort, and may
even face some danger.?

#9 - Use a 'false close' to create suspense.

It's a classic... and it still works. Establish
the value and desirability of your product
without a doubt, but delay gratification for a
few more paragraphs while piling on even more
benefits.

The most common false close is the old "But wait,
there's more..." tactic. Even though your case is
made, you don't stop and mention one or two more
irresistible benefits.

This is also a great place to meet possible
last-minute objections by pulling out the
"Warning! Don't buy any investment course unless
it meets these 8 criteria." If your prospects
have gotten this far, they WANT the product. So
give them 8 or 10 or 20 more ways to justify that
big expenditure!

#10 - Sound like the leading expert in your
field.

Price resistance diminishes in direct proportion
to trust. If your visitors believe that you're an
unchallenged expert in your niche, they're much
more likely to make that big-ticket purchase.

How do you establish this aura of expertise.
Offer UNIQUE solutions they can't get elsewhere.
Show PROOF that your product or service works as
promised. Display prominent TESTIMONIALS and
ENDORSEMENTS from respected authorities in
related fields.

And avoid hype at all costs. It's far better to
sound low key -- but confident -- than to scream
for attention.

And remember, prospects aren't stupid. If you
back up your claims with hard facts and data,
they'll gladly plunk down hundreds to thousands
for your affiliate promotions. But if you don't,
they're smart enough to look to your competitors!

Incredible Ebook, Through Saturday May 14th, 2005 ONLY!

I wanted to share an ebook with you today that has made
a MAJOR difference in my life. It's one of those books
that so good that I try to reread it about once every
2 months. That says a lot because I have many days when
I'll read several different (short) ebooks). There are
only a handful of books that I reread regularly.

Check it out and you'll see why...
http://WillieCrawford.com/powerpause.html

The books written by a man I'm very honored to count
among my personal friends.

Many of you know the name John Harricharan. As
one of the most highly regarded, self-development and
spiritual leaders on the planet, John has helped
thousands and thousands of people discover the true
secret of life-lasting success in all areas of their lives.

You don't have to take my word for it. Here's what Dr.
Deepak Chopra, best-selling author has to say about
him: "John Harricharan leads us along the enchanted
path of enlightenment with magic, charm, love and
compassion."

And Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross said, "John is fantastic,
absolutely fantastic ... listen to what he has to say.
His work has helped me through some of the toughest
times of my life." And there are many others like that.

John recently told me that he wanted to offer my subscribers
his "3 minutes, 3 steps to total success" ebook. The offer
would be for a limited time only, at a whopping
discount of over 60%. Throughout the years, John has
never made such an offer for this special product.

I was even more excited when John said that he also had
assembled an amazing array of valuable, beneficial
bonuses -- some of them never, ever offered before and
others so rare that you'd be amazed. But only if you
choose to act right away.

It's probably best to let me tell you a bit more about
this ebook in John's own words.

"With three steps, in about three minutes, you can
start on a life of success, wealth and happiness."

And he continues by asking:

"What do you want? What is your dream? To make more
money? To have a great family life? To travel to
faraway places? To enjoy wonderful relationships? To
experience better health or just have more peace, joy
and prosperity?"

Then he says:

"This special system shows you how to get to the place
where making money -- any amount of money, having all
the happiness, health and peace you can imagine, become
as simple as following a roadmap."

John says that at first, you may not believe the
endless possibilities in this formula, so he is fond of
quoting what I said about it:

"Three steps? It only takes three steps to solve
problems, make money and feel happy? I didn't believe
it either, until I tried it. Not only do the three
steps work, but you can do them anywhere, anytime, for
any situation --- and in about three minutes! On top of
that, this method never fails. I'm blown away."

I will not take any more of your time by telling you
more about John Harricharan and this limited time
offer. I want you to find out for yourself by going to
the website where John describes the amazing formula.
But you have to act now.

Go to:
http://WillieCrawford.com/powerpause.html

I am sure you'll be glad that you did. Remember, this
is a limited time offer. It will last only for a few
days starting Wednesday, May 11th and ending Saturday,
May 14th.

Visit the web-site now for more information:

OT - Debilitating Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is one of the most common complaints in the world. This is especially true of those of us who spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer.

My friend Jesse Cannone has written a lot on the topic and even offers a very nice video on dealing with the problem. You can check out Jesse's site by clicking here.

Jesse is a professional trainer and fitness expert who's written dozens of articles on the topic. Here's one aimed at people working to get back in shape...

“Bodybuilding Sins” That Cause Back Pain and Missed Workouts

by Steve Hefferon, CMT and Jesse Cannone, CFT

It’s one thing for someone who sits at a computer all day and never exercises to have back pain, but for a bodybuilder, someone who spends hours and hours each week pouring everything they’ve got into building muscle, it should be criminal!

The reason we say this is because, if you are going to spend so much time, money, and energy trying to build the “perfect body”, you have to make sure that you not only look good, but also feel good…

We’ve identified what we call “Bodybuilding Sins” that lead to back pain, sciatic pain, and other injuries… read em and take action now if you are serious about bodybuilding and are fed up with your back pain.

Because there is so much information to share with you, we’ve broken it down into a series of 5 articles, each covering a different component of how back pain affects bodybuilders.

Here’s a breakdown of the articles to look for:

Article #1 - Choosing The WRONG Exercises (below)
Article #2 - Training Variations for Pain Relief and Maximum Results
Article #3 - Targeted Stretching
Article #4 - Targeted Exercises
Article #5 - Rest, Recovery, and Injury Prevention

Article #1 - Choosing the WRONG Exercises

Get ready, this is gonna hurt! The exercises most bodybuilders focus on the most, are the ones that cause the most problems… hopefully, you’re different J

But before we share with you what those exercise are, let’s talk real quickly about what bodybuilding is…

The goal of bodybuilding isn’t to get as big as you can, or at least to us it isn’t and shouldn’t be, but to build a balanced body that is as strong as possible in every way. For example, while being freakishly big may get people’s attention, it serves you no purpose at all…

while on the other hand, what if you were not only big, but also extremely strong and powerful, lightning fast, flexible, and agile enough to kick ass if needed?

So many bodybuilders build massive amounts of muscle yet are so unbelievably weak and inflexible… for example, we know a guy who can bench press over 350 lbs but can’t do a measly 50 push-ups!

The point is, the exercises you choose and how you perform them not only determine how big, strong, and flexible you are, but also affect how your body functions and whether or not you suffer from aches, pains, and injuries like back pain and sciatic pain.

Ok, here they are… the exercises that create the most problems and are most likely to lead to back pain:

1. Bench Press

2. Leg Extension

So, any of your favorites on this list?

While there are others, these are the two that cause the most damage.

There are several reasons why these exercises made our list of the “worst bodybuilding exercises”. First, all of them target areas that already tend to get worked a lot in everyday life and often times are overdeveloped…

and by focusing so much on these exercises you end up creating muscle imbalances, or worsening existing muscle imbalances, which pull your bones and joints out of their normal position…

and this leads to uneven pressure and wear and tear on your muscle, ligaments, tendons, bones, and joints and will sooner or later lead a break down or injury.

For example, chronic overuse of the bench press, coupled with little or no exercises targeting the upper back, leads to an overdevelopment of the chest and a lack of strength and development in the upper back…

This all too common combination leads to what we call “Turtle Back”. You know what we’re talking about, when the shoulders are pulled so far forward, lats are as wide as barn, and from behind, their back looks like a giant sea turtle shell!

This “Turtle Back” posture can create neck, upper back, and shoulder pain and injuries faster than you can pop an Advil!

Plus, how many times during your day are you forced to lie on your back and push up a bar loaded with weights? There are so many better exercises for chest development that not only stimulate more muscle, but also build more usable strength.

Now let’s talk about the fabulous thigh builder, the leg extension…

Not only does it place an unbelievable amount of strain on the knee joint, but it also will quickly overdevelop the quads, which are already getting far more work than their counterpart, the hamstrings.

An imbalance between the quadriceps and hamstrings, which is also extremely common in bodybuilders, is a key contributor to back pain. This imbalance is easily identifiable by what people often call “Bubble Butt” or “Ghetto Booty”.

So hopefully you can see how important it is to choose your exercises wisely. We strongly recommend you cut out these exercises, or at least cut back on using them and add in targeted exercises for the opposing muscle groups and targeted stretches for those tight, overdeveloped muscles.

The key to eliminating back pain, or any other ache, pain or injury for that matter, is to bring your body closer to balance…

What good is muscle if you can’t use it? How many more workouts are you going to miss because of back, neck, or shoulder pain? How much bigger and stronger could you be if back pain and other injuries weren’t ruining your training?

Just imagine how bad things will be 10, 20, or 30 years from now if you don’t make changes to your training now… but don’t take our word for it, ask some of the older bodybuilders who are paying the price now... you can spot them easily at the gym because they limp around trying to find something they CAN do.

Look for the next article, “Training Variations for Pain Relief and Maximum Results” very soon and in the mean time, if you are suffering from back pain or sciatic pain, here’s what you need to do…

Head on over to our website http://www.losethebackpain.com now to find out exactly what’s causing your back pain and the specific steps you need to take to get relief fast and get back to training at 100%.

The Zen Of Motivation

THE ZEN OF MOTIVATION

Executive Advisor

To be or not to be, that is the question.
From Shakespeare's "Hamlet"

You have probably had the experience at one time or another of feeling stuck in your life. Of just sitting in one place - unclear of what decision you should make.

How can you move forward in life when you feel unclear about the next step you need to take? Admittedly, such a lack of clarity can cause some pretty extreme stress.

It is difficult to move forward if you do not have clarity, since clarity of purpose often controls your supply of life energy. Knowing what you want generates the energy to pursue it. While not knowing drains your energy.

So what can you do if you lack clarity? What are your options?

If you are afraid of making the wrong choice, you can wait and hope for clarity. Or you can try to think your options through in your own mind.

But the truth is, you will never really figure life out. In terms of life-questions - life has a way of just resolving itself, with or without our conscious intervention or so-called decision-making.

And even when we think we have everything all figured out - life will seldom deliver a perfect replica of our mental picture.

One good way to conquer uncomfortable indecision is to simply make a choice from among your unknowns. Whether or not you feel certain your choice is the right choice - just take a small step in what seems to be the best direction, in spite of your doubt or confusion.

There is great power in action. Movement in any direction will break you free from the cement of indecision - and provide new information and experiences.
Action sends ripples of energy and change out into the world. And since life is so totally unpredictable, who knows how your situation will change once you get some action energy into motion.

You may even want to think of your life as a novel you are reading. You are only part of the way into the book - and you really do not know what is going to happen next. How could you know? The book is still being written!

The challenge you face is this: Dare you move forward in the face of uncertainty? Can you handle taking action without knowing whether it is the right action?

You may feel confused or anxious, and wonder if you are making the right decision. But somewhere along in your life novel you may discover there was no right decision.

Here is what I have learned in my own roller coaster version of life: If you find you have stepped onto the wrong path, you can always adjust your direction. And any so-called mistakes simply add to your personal wisdom about what does not work -- thus taking you closer to discovering what does work.

There is great power in action!

Go for it. Even if you make the wrong choice, at least you will generate some Zen action energy and break free of the painful, mind-numbing cement of indecision!

Demo Video of New WYSIWYG HTML Editor

I've mentioned several times a new, easy to use HTML editor that I was a beta tester for and now highly recommend. I think it's every bit as capable as FrontPage or DreamWeaver but incredibly cheap.

Anyway, here's a short demo video that shows just how easy it is to use this new html editor. With this tool, I can create a website from scratch in under 10 minutes if I really wanted to :-)

Master Reprint Rights To Rare Ebook!

After having a number of people ask me where they could find a listing of all my products, I decided to create this new blog category. It will only feature products that I personally created.

The first one that I'll mention, will be through this note that I sent to some of my list members recently...

One of the easiest ways I've earned BIG MONEY over the
past 2 years is by brokering some very lucrative joint
ventures. As a JV broker, I earn a percentage commission
from all of the sales made by all of the JV partners I
recruit. There is a "System" to doing this that makes
it almost fool-proof!

I've written about this several times, and even put it
in an ebook entitled, "Amazing Secrets of A Black Belt
JV Broker."

There are a number of very good course available on
this topic. I've read practically all of them!

All of what you really need to know in order to be a
successful JV broker is covered in my short, no-fluff
ebook. I've sold copies for $47 each but then took it
off the market because I didn't want too much competition.

Now, I've decided to offer Master Reprint Rights to my ebook,
"Amazing Secrets of A Black Belt JV Broker!" The ebook can
be sold for any price you choose, packaged with other
products, or offered as part of a membership site.

These are Master Reprint Rights, meaning you can also
sell reprint rights to others. You can sell the ebook
or reprint rights to others at whatever price you choose
(recommended $47 for the ebook and $197 for the reprint
rights). You can resell the reprint rights but NOT the
Master Reprint Rights.

In other words you can sell the basic reprint rights but
NOT the right to sell reprint rights to others.

There are a number of links recommending other products
in the ebook that you are free to rebrand with your own
affiliate links. Nothing else in the ebook can be changed.

I'm offering a total of 300 sets of Master Reprint Rights
for only $97 each. Comparable reprint rights sell for around
$497 elsewhere.

I do have a salespage I've written that you're free to
use as is or modify. You can view it at:
http://WillieCrawford.com/amazing-secrets.htm
This is not the exact page I used previously but does
use principles I've used in other marketing copy. One
of it's most powerful features is the sense of scarcity
it creates. You can just add your order link, upload this
page to your server, and you're ready to start taking
orders.

To take advantage of this Limited Special, simply use
this url which goes directly to the order form:
http://WillieCrawford.com/limitless-subscriber-special.html

You get a PDF ebook, plus the same ebook in MS Word so
that you can rebrand it in whatever fashion you feel most
comfortable with. You also get the html webpages and
graphics that you can modify to fit in with whatever site
you use it on.

The Top Seven Mistakes eBook Authors Make

Another great article I thought I'd share with you...

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The Top Seven Mistakes eBook Authors Make

-By Jim Edwards and David Garfinkel

eBooks are the hottest thing going on the Web right now!

Authors with the entrepreneurial instinct are making
anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars
per month - that's right, per month - by selling ebooks
online.

Why are some authors doing so much better than others?
We've discovered seven key mistakes that most ebook authors
make (and in doing so, hold themselves back from major
success):

1. They don't write to a specific, target audience.

The biggest mistake most ebook authors make is they don't
clearly define, identify and visualize who they are selling
their ebook to. On the Web, to be successful, you must
write to a specific group of people who have specific
interests.

Make sure that you know exactly who is going to buy your
ebook, and where you can find them online.

2. They don't automate as many of their business activities
as possible.

Selling ebooks, though it is highly profitable, is not a
business where you make hundreds of dollars per sale.

Automate everything you can - credit card processing, ebook
delivery, as much technical support as possible. If you
can't automate a function, delegate it to someone else.

3. They don't have a compelling title for their ebook.

Use words that convey the benefit of what's in the ebook, as
well as words your audience is familiar with.

A bad title for an ebook: "Online Marketing for Newbies."
A good title for the same ebook: "97 Ways to Promote Your
Website - No Experience Required."

4. They try to cover too much ground.

Many ebook authors convey a lot of information but don't
cover anything in-depth. As a result, they never fully
explain anything in enough detail to provide any useful
value to their readers.

This is a very bad mistake to make, especially when it
comes to how-to ebooks, which happen to be the best type to
write.

5. They are not proactive in their marketing.

It would be nice if marketing for your ebook simply happened
on its own - but it doesn't. You have to do it yourself.

After you've promoted your ebook to the people on your own
mailing list (if you have one), then you have to contact
other Website owners and persuade them to be your
affiliates. You should do this continually.

6. They don't differentiate their ebook from its
competitors.

When you choose your topic, even if there are a hundred
other ebooks out there on same general subject, choose an
angle for yours that will make it easy for yours to be
distinguished from the others.

For example, right now job-hunting ebooks are very popular.
There are dozens that are big sellers. "Secrets of Breaking
Into Pharmaceutical Sales" has a very specific title that
sets it apart from the competition, and is aimed at a
clearly identified target audience. Incidentally, it's
selling very well itself.

7. They write ebooks that nobody will pay for.

Many ebook authors write about information that either
people can get for free, or that people are not actually
interested in enough to pay for the information.

Before you invest weeks or months into the writing of your
ebook, invest a little time investigating whether other
ebooks in the same subject area are selling on the Web.

So, there you have it - the seven big mistakes to avoid.
Remember, the opportunities are plentiful - and huge - right
now for anyone who wants to become a best-selling ebook
author. Simply use common sense, follow our advice, and let
your literary career flourish!

Google Creates Video "Vending" Machine Online

Google Creates Video "Vending" Machine Online

It's really no secret that search giant, Google.com, wants
to own the gateway to all media online.

They operate the Web's most popular search engine, largest
free blogging service, and one of the largest news services
online.

Recently, Google started offering video from their website.
Google's video offerings so far, comprised mostly of
documentaries, news, and daytime talk TV programs,
represented a testing device to get the kinks out of their
video delivery and search system.

Now, thanks to widespread availability of high-speed
Internet access, inexpensive desktop video editing, and the
emergence of portable video players, Google is steadily
ramping up what will surely become the Web's first video
"vending" machine.

Log on to Video.Google.com and search a limited number of
available TV shows.

Curiously, most do not allow you to play video, only to see
still screen shots of the show and read a transcript taken
from closed captioning for the hearing impaired.

However, based on the fact that Google recently started
accepting video submissions through their website, this
format is about to change drastically.

Originally, speculation about Google's new video service
centered squarely on video "blogging, " where online
pundits would share their thoughts in video rather than
written form.

However, after releasing more details, it appears that
Google maintains much grander plans for online video than
just allowing people with a camcorder to rant and rave.

Currently Google is in the "gathering" stage. This means
they are accepting video submissions from content providers
with very few restrictions.

Basically, Google says they want original content, no porn
or offensive content, and they want it in a very specific
video format (mpeg2 or mpeg4 with MP3 codec).

Other than that, the sky is literally the limit. For
specifics, log on to https://upload.video.google.com/ and
click the "Find out more" link.

Right now it appears that Google decided to gather as much
content as possible before offering any of it to the
public, so you currently can't view any videos.

Google also states that they will allow content providers
to either charge for their videos or allow viewers to watch
them for free.

Google states they will collect the money, take a small
fee, and pay the content provider. This alone should excite
anyone who sells content online because the barrier to
entry (high-speed servers, video delivery, credit card
processing, customer service) just got a lot lower.

Plus, it's a safe bet that Google will find a way to
integrate revenue producing videos into their pay-per-click
program.

Combine all this with the recent emergence of truly
portable digital video players (Sony PSP, Creative Lab's
Zen Media Center), and beginning of video-on-demand through
the Internet just arrived. Now this doesn't mean growing
pains won't occur.

The biggest drawback to searching for and finding online
video is that each video file must have a text transcript
associated with it in order to get properly indexed by a
search engine.

In the beginning, this will slow the production of new
material.

Despite these and other growing pains, plan on Google
opening up the first and largest video "vending" machine
online within 12 months.

A Few Openings At Content Desk

I was just notified that Content Desk has a few openings.
Content Desk is the automated system that allows you to
automate most of the process of adding lots of great,
relevant content to your site.

You may recall that total charter membership is limited to
400. Those initially sold out in a few days. I understand
there are now less than 10 openings... which probably means
a few people didn't renew.

You can get full details here. Don't delay since they
won't last :-)

Click on the "Charter Membership" link in the menu
bar.
